School Council & Eco-Warriors

Our School Council represents the views of all our pupils. It gives children the opportunity to make their voices heard and feel part of the whole school community.

A School Council rep has three main jobs:

  • Collecting the views of their class.
  • Letting their class know what goes on in the meetings they attend.
  • Taking an active part in meetings.

To do these jobs well they have regular meetings with their class where they listen to people’s concerns and issues and note them down. They then put forward their class’s views at regular School Council meetings.

The School Council have discussed issues such as:

  • Ensuring that the outdoor reading area is being used correctly.
  • Putting Friendship Stops in place in the playground and introducing ‘Red Caps’ as friendship monitors.
  • Maintaining the pond.
  • Designing friendship posters to display around the school.

Eco-Warriors/Road Safety Officers

Each class in key stage 1 has two representatives.  They work with the staff in the school to show a caring attitude to our environment and how we can improve the world in which we live.

This year we are looking forward to refurbishing our pond.  We will be cleaning and improving the area in and around the pond.  We will also continue to recycle rubbish, fruit and garden waste.

Last year our Eco Team enjoyed visiting Rickmansworth Canal, learning about life on the canal and how to open and close the lock.  They also got the opportunity to dress-up in Victorian clothes.

Gardening club will begin in the Spring Term and the Eco Warriors will support the club. They will each plant their own sunflower and watch them grow.

November brings 'Switch Off Fortnight' where the Eco Warriors enjoy walking around the school and checking that all of the lights and computer monitors are turned off.
