Reception

In Reception the curriculum we work through is the ‘Early Years Foundation Stage’.

The three prime areas of the Foundation Stage are:

    -  Personal, Social and Emotional development

    -  Physical development

    -  Communication & Language

The specific areas of the Foundation Stage are:

    -  Literacy

    -  Mathematics

    -  Understanding the World

    -  Expressive Arts & Design

All of these areas are covered within the planning. The topic web gives an overview of what the children will be learning as well as ideas for helping your child at home.

The daily routine in Reception:

8.50 – Children arrive to school, independently put their belongings away and then the register is taken.

9.00-9.20 – This is input time. An input focuses on teacher led activity and table top jobs are explained.

9.20-11.15 – Children take part in teacher led tasks in small groups. Children are able to self-select activities across the three classrooms and the shared area. Within this time the children are also able to free-flow between the indoor and outdoor environments as they please.

11.15-11.35- Letters and Sounds – The children work through the Letters and Sounds framework. In Reception we focus on Phase 2,3 and 4 of the framework. Information about this can be found at: http://www.letters-and-sounds.com/

11.35-12.45 – Lunch Time

12.45-1.10 – Afternoon input - usually Knowledge and Understanding of the World.

1.10-2.45 - Children take part in teacher led tasks in small groups. Children are able to self-select activities across the three classrooms and the shared area. Within this time the children are also able to free-flow between the indoor and outdoor environments as they please.

2.45-3.20 – During this time children tidy the classroom and get ready to go home. We read stories, sing songs, discuss news and complete circle times.
