Our vision for PE at Whiteheath is for all children to develop the knowledge and skills needed to establish and maintain a healthy lifestyle and a life-long love of physical activity. We believe it is our responsibility to ensure that all children are physically active every day, whether through physical activity, PE lessons, break times or extra- curricular activites.
We provide opportunities for children to participate in a wide range of physical activities and sports. We see participation in these activities as a way of increasing confidence, self-esteem and improving well-being which are essential for leading a happy and healthy life. We also believe that children should have the opportunity to compete in competitive games and activities that build character and help to embed values such a teamwork, fairness and respect. At Whiteheath we believe that all children have the right to be physically active and develop a love of physical activity regardless or previous experience, additional needs or existing opportunities outside of school.
At Whiteheath we use the Real PE scheme which educates children in a holistic approach (social, physical, creative, health and fitness, personal and cognitive). Children are taught fundamental movement skills, such as running, jumping, throwing and catching), to support children to have a positive relationship with physical activity. The children will experience a wide range of opportunities to better their agility, balance and co-ordination, both individually and with their peers. We teach children to understand and follow rules, developing their tactical and strategic awareness. Children learn to follow instructions, develop resilience and collaborate in games and challenges. Explicit teaching and praising of both physical skills and learning behaviours enables children to thrive in PE at Whiteheath.
