Thinking School

Thinking Skills

At Whiteheath we use a toolbox of thinking strategies:

Habits of Mind build a common language helping us to behave intelligently when confronted with a problem. Each habit focuses on a characteristic which will help you find the answer if it isn’t immediately obvious. Eg. Persevere. We have chosen eight to focus on and given them each a catchphrase to help us remember them.

Growth Mind Set is about developing positive self-talk eg. I can’t do it….Yet!

Philosophy for Children helps children think for themselves. They develop a community of enquiry where questions are valued and explored.

Bloom’s Taxonomy supports teachers with planning, higher level thinking activities and questions.

•Hyerle’s Thinking Maps are visual-verbal tools for recording and organising ideas and information. Each visual pattern is linked to a specific cognitive process.
